Colorado Snowboard Blog 11/16/09

Well seeing as it's been over a week since I've posted one of these here blog-thingies I suppose it's time again to waste some of your precious life with various snowboard-related drivel from the mind of some dude in Englewood who has an internet connection and access to the backside of this website.
First of all, Winter Park is now open as of this past weekend. This was the event that my esteemed roommate and I have been waiting for since we shelled out hundreds of dollars for our passes. It should have been epic, it could have been epic, but our actions resulted in nothing short of an EPIC FAIL as far as snowboarding goes. My esteemed roommate decided to work on Saturday to bag a bunch of OT hours and I woke up around noon with a massive hangover from the Crown City Rockers show the night before and opted to do laundry all day because my bedroom was getting really stinky from that gross-ass pile of dirty clothes festering in the corner. I know, I know; we suck. I intend to get revenge on last weekend this coming weekend with a multi-pronged assault on Winter Park and the surrounding areas. That'll make good blog-fodder if I manage to remember anything, assuming that I live. *Author's note: Upon further internet research it turns out I had bad information and in fact didn't miss opening weekend after all. That makes me feel a lot better about myself. See how I didn't cover that up? It could have been so easy...
Next up, Colorado got hit with some snow over the weekend which killed any chance for me to ride on Sunday because I was out doing snow removal from four AM to one-thirty PM. I got to the bar just in time to watch the final nail sink into the Broncos' coffin. Hopefully that trend doesn't continue. I'm talking about the Broncos, not the snow. It seems that the trend of Colorado snowstorms held true over the weekend and no mountain that is open is reporting much at the time of this writing. Loveland is checking in with 1" new and a 20" base, A-Basin and Copper are both checking in with 18' bases, and Keystone is following suit. All four of these mountains are reporting multiple inches of new snow from the past storm but their base levels remain pretty much static which has me thinking the warm-ish temps are melting down the bases and the snow canons are rebuilding them overnight. Wolf Creek on the other hand is totally kicking everybody's ass again this season by already being 100% open with a 41" mid-mountain depth and 30" in the last 48 hours. See? Living in southwest Colorado doesn't completely suck unless you're the one banging my college girlfriend now and she won't let you go ride because you've gotta spend more time with her than anything else in the world. You poor bastard. All snow totals were gathered from coloradoski.com and keystoneresort.com on 11/16/09. Now this article is not plagerism.
I didn't hear about this last one until it was too late but I guess there was some big ski/snowboard expo over the weekend that had killer deals on last year's gear. I missed it so if you went please chime in and let us know how it was. If tickets were $12 there had better have been some radass gear in there for cheap.
Winter Park's official opening day is Wednesday the 18th so that still puts them ahead of the curve for the season as long as the majority of mountains are still scheduled to open after Thanksgiving (they are, I checked) so from here on out this blog will probably be focused mainly on what I observe or cause to happen on that hill but I did get roped into some Boy Scout's day at Copper on 12/5 because tickets were only $25. Given the players involved for that one I'm sure that I'll have some good, dramatic story to kill your time with. If you listen to Pandora Radio (you should because it kicks ass: pandora.com) create a Jedi Mind Tricks station. Just type in "jedi mind tricks" when you make your station. You'll be suprised at what it pulls up. It's dope.
Shred Hard.
Dave Berry.
