Colorado Snowboard Blog 10/17/09

All hail Ullr! This is the earliest season that Colorado has seen in quite a long time and I'm loving every minute of it. Today the Frozen Daggers or Dagger Mountain Corps, or whatever the hell we're calling ourselves these days hit Loveland again with a fury not usually seen. The good people at Loveland have been blowing snow like crazy to expand the so far limited terrain that can be rode and I totally love them for it. Today we were greeted with a whole four runs to shred off the only lift that's open right now. That's a 400% expansion from last week. Ok, I know it's not much but if you've seen Zombieland then you know rule #32; appreciate the small things.
We got up to the hill at the crack of eleven and still managed to pull princess parking. I don't know where the hell the rest of you were but you missed quite the cherry day today (yeah you Aimee!). The temp was around 40 degrees when we got there and got up past 50 pretty quickly. We started the day rocking hoodies but after about three laps we got down to t-shirts. I shed my beanie and rocked it like Fraggle Rock with my wig flopping around on top of my goggles. Hell, it was so warm that I was regretting wearing my Underarmor. Oh and get this, there was NO WIND. Yeah, no wind at Loveland. When does that happen? Almost never, but today was a banner day.
The good people at Loveland decided to move the rails from where they were last week and put them down the main green run on the left side and added a c-box and a rainbow box. I stayed the hell away because I've never been a jibber and I wreck my tail bone every single time I try to jib, but the goods are there if you're into that fresh-fly stuff. The snow quality quickly degraded due to the heat today but I'm not complaining because I'm riding in October. My wax held up for the day but in these conditions it's good to go up on a fresh coat of the slick stuff every time because it'll get snow-blasted off quicker than a prom dress. Yeah, I just said that even though I never went to prom. I was too busy riding my skateboard, smoking weed, and drinking beer to deal with that garbage.
The tailgating scene was kicking ass today as well, mainly due to us air-guitaring to Iron Maiden's Greatest Hits while shredding out PBR's, but we weren't the only ones. While we were de-booting we heard Aqua's Barbie Girl blasting out of these other dude's whip so we went over to say what up. Overall they seemed like chads but they were down with the tailgating scene and that kicks ass. Spot-rocking in the parking lot is badass, especially in the early season when it really doesn't matter how hard you rip.
Last but not least I want to throw out mad love to Diabolical Boardshop here in Englewood for stocking the rad gear. I was rocking my Burton mitts today and they were simply too hot for the conditions so I hit up Englewood's only boardshop and scored a pair of Rome pipe gloves with Rome/PBR logos on them, and Mind Field, and a clean Element hoodie. My esteemed roommate hooked up a fast-ass new set of Electric goggles. Diabolical rules and if you ever find yourself on Quincy and Broadway you'd better stop in. So I splurged. So what?
In closing I'd like to say that we'll be heshing it up again next weekend because we need to break in all this rad gear that we just bought and if you're not taking advantage of this super-early season then you're just not scened-out enough, bra.
Shred Hard.
Dave Berry.

Sure thing. Actually I need a new set of mitts so I’ll be in sooner than later. The new stickers are sick as hell by the way.
