Why You Need a New Deck
Posted by: DBrantley | Mar 30, 09

Unless you live in Special Town, U.S.A., you realize the economy is stuck in the crapper with no plunger. Jobs are gone, your mom is pulling in a check from the government, and businesses are shutting down faster than you can hardflip the three set at the library. And it’s not looking better any soon.
According to an article at CNNMoney.com, cash flow experts expect tens of thousands of stores to close in the coming year, and many of them will be retail giants in the snooty Fortune 500 Club. If the big boys of commerce can’t survive, guess what that means for your local independent skate shop. A quick Google search brings up a handful of websites announcing the closure of various skateboard shops from all over the place. However, since tons of skate shops don’t operate via the web and get little attention in their local media, who knows how many have shut down without making any Internet waves.
The moral of the story: Your local skate shop may be in danger of failing along with the economy. Lend them a hand by trashing your worn out deck and those bearings that barely turn your wheels and buy some new stuff. Or prepare to get all your skateboard gear at Hot Topic or eBay.

I’d rather rollerblade then buy a deck from Hot Topic! That is scary.
