If finding a skateable pool near your house is as likely as getting a date with Pamela Anderson or Kat Von D (make that Corey Feldman or uhh…Justin Timberlake for the ladies), listen up! Your bruised and battered luck is about to change.

While homeowners across America are weeping over the mortgage crisis, the downfallen economy is reason for you to rejoice. According to a story in the New York Times, the rising tide of foreclosures makes it easier than ever to find the perfect pool to target.

How’s it work? Good question.

When foreclosures force people out of their homes, the fence gate swings wide open for you and your crew. Though turning an abandoned pool into something clean enough to skate takes some effort, it’s well worth it. Especially compared to not having a pool to skate.

Surprisingly, the NYT article went so far as to explain how to scope out pools that are ripe for draining. From hitting up real estate websites (realty.com and foreclosures.com are good starting points) to trolling around neighborhoods looking for foreclosed homes, the NYT offered plenty of tips to inspire skaters to get off the streets and into the pool.

When questioned about draining and skating pools at foreclosed homes, one crafty skater, Josh Peacock, told a NYT reporter he was helping the environment. How? By getting rid of stale, stagnant, shallow water that becomes home to all kinds of vermin and bugs. So go out and save the planet by draining a pool. And don’t forget to skate it hard.
